My biggest day of the year and...Zuckerberg sticks it to me

Published: Thu, 08/17/17

I had been building up to this day for weeks: the five-year anniversary of my Liberty Classroom membership site.

To observe this milestone, I was all set to offer a really great discount and some signed books.

It was going to be powered by Facebook ads, which have done very well for Liberty Classroom.

So the day -- April 10, 2017 -- arrived and...my Facebook ads account had been disabled. "Suspicious activity," they said.

Of course, there was no suspicious activity, but Facebook wouldn't concede that for another 72 hours.

So I'd built up this date as the one that people should save for my great discount, and now my traditional way of publicizing it was gone.

The whole campaign now had to rely on my email list only. I thought: well, I guess I'm about to learn how good I've gotten at email marketing.

Well, I'm not the type to get into numbers publicly a whole lot, so let's just say this: we had by far the best promotion we have ever had.

By far.

The whole experience reminded me of an important lesson:

Facebook is great, but crap like this can happen -- or you can even lose your page altogether.

On the other hand, I own my email list, I can back it up whenever I want, and I don't have to worry that one day it'll just be gone.

This is why this week I've been stressing the importance of learning how to build an email list. It is the one marketing asset that is truly your own.

I won't be taking a trip to Hawaii from the commissions I earn from a $7 product. I just think List Masteree, which I've gone through myself, is a ridiculous deal -- video interviews with five successful email marketers speaking about how they built their lists, and an eBook with still more strategies to implement.

Your chance to grab it for a mere seven smackers goes away forever tomorrow night, though:
