decent folks woke up to find all their content demonetized -- too controversial

Last weekend, at that Forbidden Conference I told you about, I was asked during the Q&A:

What if Google penalizes you, and you lose most of your search-engine traffic?

Excellent question.

You could be penalized for unpopular views. Or you could have exquisitely conventional views but a new Google algorithm could suddenly sink your entire model.

Part of my answer was: you have to diversify.

I think about all those people who relied on YouTube revenue, and who woke up one day to discover all their videos demonetized.

They had put all their eggs in one basket.

More than that, they had kept their audience on a foreign platform, instead of using YouTube to draw that audience to their own website.

From there, they could have been building an email list and doing various other things to make themselves less dependent on platforms they couldn't control.

If you want to master the traffic game -- and you need to, in order to prosper -- there are things you should do, and things you definitely should not do.
