Hey, you fools, there's never been a functioning libertarian society

We get that one a lot.

Where have your ideas been tried?

And where has there actually been a functioning stateless society?

There are answers to these questions, to be sure, but the other day I learned about another one: Moresnet, a tiny wedge of disputed territory in northwestern Europe in the nineteenth century.

In principle it had a government, but it did next to nothing, and for a number of years it had no one at all in the role of burgomaster, the person in charge.

As you might expect, it prospered. It had an extremely small police presence. Its people hardly had to worry themselves about all the issues the so-called Great Powers had to contend with, and they themselves scarcely had to contend with regulations or the tax man.

They just went about their business.

It's like people who live the laptop lifestyle.

They're surrounded by people running hither and yon, or dealing with office politics, or waking up at the crack of dawn to sit in traffic for an hour.

Meanwhile, the laptop folks go their merry way.

And as I've noted, my own listeners have been reporting: this whole eCommerce store thing sure does work.

Only 24 hours remain to grab Fred Lam's free (and actually useful) book Starting From Zero: How to Build an Online Business When You're Starting From Nothing, featuring a foreword by Robert Kiyosaki. Sign up for our workshop that's taking place tomorrow and you'll be able to download the book instantly (but watch your inbox, because that's where you'll find it).

Put on your yellow-and-black hat and head on over to the link:
