Some people say junior high was a difficult and awkward time in their
lives.
For me it was kindergarten.
Sure, I could read by age 3, but that wasn't enough.
I may be "mildly retarded," said one of the kindergarten teachers at the Hood School in North Reading, Massachusetts.
It was things like
this:
I couldn't skip. It baffled me why this would be held against me -- what kind of boy skips? (I am still traumatized by memories of my entire family skipping across my grandmother's living room in a vain attempt to teach me.)
I supposedly didn't draw arms on my people. In fact, I drew them to have their hands behind their backs, since any hands I drew
always looked ridiculous. (What did they think those things on the sides of my people were, mug handles? They were the arms, positioned so the hands would be behind the back!)
I'd say that's more clever than retarded, but I wasn't allowed an opinion.
Since then, I've learned to create pretty amazing graphics for my business in just a few minutes, without having to
outsource the task for hundreds of smackers a pop.
How did a "mildly retarded" guy get to that level?
