Philosophy professor Bryan Van Norden just argued in the New York Times that ignorant people like Jordan Peterson aren't entitled to the platform and prestige that accompanies an invitation from a university or other prominent institution.
Instead, he says, those institutions
should be reserved for smart people like Ta-Nehisi Coates, who can explain to us why the American Dream requires systemic racism, or Kate Manne, who can tell us about how "himpathy" (whatever that is) supports misogyny.
Yeah, that sounds reasonable.
Of course, folks like Peterson will prosper with or
without the attention of the media or universities. They know how to drive traffic, so to speak, to their work and ideas.
