"Woods," you say, "I'm sick of all the
libertarian drama. Let's just focus on spreading the message."
I couldn't agree more.
Except:
(1) If people posing as libertarians are explaining the message badly, they're undermining rather than
spreading the message, so there's nothing wrong with wanting to deal with that.
(2) If someone libels you, you are allowed to reply.
(3) You secretly do enjoy libertarian drama.
So here's what happened this morning.
You know from yesterday's email that Talib Kweli, a well-known rapper with 1.1 million Twitter followers, spent a shocking number of hours -- 12 in a row, then continuing when he woke up the next day -- calling me a "racist" and the heroic Eric July a "Nazi."
Typical, of course.
Not a rational argument to be found anywhere.
I seized the opportunity to let this smear artist inadvertently line my pocket: I announced that for two hours, I was taking $200 off the master membership at Liberty Classroom, my flagship membership site. The coupon code? TALIB.
Admit it: I'm good.
This morning, with this as the context, the chairman of the Libertarian National Committee tweeted out a link to a Talib Kweli song.
Now it could be that the chairman is a big hip-hop fan, and this is merely coincidental.
Probably not, though.
The comments on his Tweet are overwhelmingly negative.
The tide is turning, my friends.
But remember:
I took some hideous
smears from a guy with a million followers -- and I monetized them.
Imagine being in that position.
Start building a digital asset -- it can be like mine, or it can be entirely different. But something based on a hobby or interest of yours, and which you'll enjoy working on.
When you know what you're doing, you can monetize a labor-of-love website. My friends and I are living proof. As are my listeners!
Most people, on the other hand, are flying blind.
If you join me on Tuesday, you'll know
exactly what to do.
