As a young lad in my early 20s, I got to meet Murray Rothbard on four occasions, and I had the chance to speak
with him at length multiple times on those occasions.
Then in December 1994 I got an email from Lew Rockwell: Murray would like to see you over Christmas break. Give him a call. (I was at Columbia at the time, and Rothbard would be at his New York apartment, which he kept even after getting the position at UNLV.)
Give him a call?
You have to be kidding me.
I was nervous as could be. I actually wrote out what I would say in case I froze up -- which I also did as a teenager when calling girls for the first time.
But of course, as you can imagine, Rothbard put me completely at ease, and talked and talked.
Now if I'd said the wrong thing to Rothbard, no real harm would have been done.
But in business we don't have that luxury. We have to know what to say to get people to buy from us.
