I have plenty of books on my shelf that I'll never, ever read cover to cover. But I'm much better off for owning them, even in the age of the Internet.

I'm never going to read my French-English dictionary all the way through. Nor my encyclopedia set. Nor my guide to English usage.

I don't therefore say (as a reader told me today), "I don't have time for these resources."

I say instead, "I'm glad these resources are here for when I do need them, and I'm glad I can find the exact piece of information I need."
