When Navin Johnson, Steve Martin's character in The Jerk, gleefully finds his name in the new phone book, he excitedly declares: "Things are going to start happening to me now."

 

(As it happens, at that very moment a crazed gunman is choosing a random name from the phone book to go shoot, and of course it's Navin's.)

 

But look:
