Over the weekend I once again saw my favorite play, The Play That Goes Wrong.
One of the actors enjoys sourdough baking. So every week he bakes a loaf of sourdough bread and auctions it off at one of the performances for charity.
I had to have it.
The bid level reached $120 and stayed there.
I decided enough was enough. I raised my hand and said, "Two hundred!"
That got a nice reaction, and in fact one of the actors hopped off the stage to give me a high five.
Now as delicious as that bread is going to be, it's probably not worth two hundred clams. Auctions for charity are about giving more than necessary in order to fund a good cause.
Black Friday, on the other hand, is all about paying much less than usual to get something you really need or love.
So:
