Last Thursday I made my first and only visit to Englewood, New Jersey, where I saw Yes perform at the Bergen Performing Arts Center.
(For any purists out there, I know it's not really Yes without the great Jon Anderson, but
I still can't resist seeing them.)
After the show was over I walked a block or two from the venue and summoned an Uber back to my hotel in Manhattan.
A man in his seventies approached me and asked if I knew anything about the bus system
there, so he could get back to Manhattan.
"No," I said, "I have an Uber coming to take me to Manhattan."
It was cold, and the poor guy obviously didn't know what he was going to do. So I said,
"Since I'm going to Manhattan anyway, why don't you just ride with me?"
And that's what we did.
He must have thanked me six or seven times.
We spent the whole ride talking about our musical tastes and concert experiences. The
driver thought we were lifelong friends. After my companion exited the vehicle, I told the surprised driver that we'd met just half an hour earlier.
It was a good deed, I suppose, but it was very easy for me to do. I was heading to the same
destination this guy was; why not help him out?
I also try to do good deeds for people who, unlike this guy, know who I am.
And many of these things, even though people are just as thankful for them as this fellow
was for that ride, are equally easy for me to do.
As you know, when my readers start blogs or websites, I've got several quite valuable
bonuses I give them to help make those blogs and websites a success.
So if you've ever thought of starting one, here's what I'll do for you (plus, as you'll see
below, I've added an extra one).
I'll send you some video tutorials to help you get up and running, I'll promote your site
on my podcast, I'll give you a backlink on my site (which gives you an SEO bump), and invite you to my private group just for people who took me up on this offer, where we can help each other (and at some point you will need help).
But between now and tomorrow only I am adding one more: a 20-minute Zoom meeting with me,
at our mutual convenience, if you'd like to pick my brain.
(Just write to me at this address when you're ready for the Zoom call and for your
bonuses.)
Because it's Black Friday week, hosting plans are at their lowest level of the whole year.
So if starting a blog or website was something you were planning to do anyway, you may as well lock in your hosting plan at a level you won't see again for a long time.
And remember, my Zoom bonus, which you can redeem at your leisure, disappears
tomorrow.
