My wife and I spent last week in Spain (Madrid and Seville).

The hotel we stayed at overlooked Madrid's Plaza Mayor. When we arrived, we looked out the window and saw plenty of hustle and bustle. There were caricaturists, people dining outdoors, folks shuffling through the plaza and...a bear.

He stood out like a sore thumb. There he was, a big brown bear, in the middle of the Plaza Mayor.

It was a man in a bear costume, of course, and he was looking for people who wanted a picture with him in exchange for a tip.

My wife decided: I need to get a picture with that bear.

But by the time we'd gotten ready to head out that day, no bear. He was gone.

Every morning we opened the curtains, hoping to see him again. And every morning, no bear.

And then came the last day.

I opened the curtains. No bear.

I took my shower.

On a lark, I looked out the window again.

Down in the plaza was...a bear.

He had finally returned.

My wife actually squealed with delight when I told her.

And yet.

By the time we were ready to head down, he had gone again.

We never got the picture with that bear.
