There was even a little space on the order form for you to tape your penny.

Now of course they weren't going to give you 12 albums for a penny and leave it at that. You had to buy X albums over the next year at the regular price.

So there was a catch, but when you're six years old, as I was when I first saw the ad, you've got your penny taped to the order form and you're ready to go, without even thinking that the offer has to be too good to be true.
