Most people first got to know of me because of my books, which I began releasing 20 years ago.
I've had great success as an author, and yet in high school I never envisioned myself as a writer. The very idea would have horrified me.
To the contrary, I was sure my work one day would be somehow mathematical -- I was the captain of the North Andover High School math team, after all, and I twice led our team to the state championships and once to the New England championships. For that matter, two years in a row I secured myself a spot on the Eastern Massachusetts All-Star Team, which competed at the national championships at Penn State.
You might think: surely this guy is going to be a mathematician, not a writer.
But sometimes life surprises you, as it did me.
Writing doesn't always generate a lot of income. Books, for instance, usually flop. Blog posts tend to be, shall we say, a labor of love.
But your words can actually pay, if you know where to look. Most people don't.
For those of you who hate writing, I get it. I used to be you and I completely sympathize.
But for those of you who enjoy it, here's how to find places that absolutely will pay for writing:
