This week on the Tom
Woods Show I'm releasing an episode that discusses "Oliver Anthony," the singer (real name Chris Lunsford) whose "Rich Men North of Richmond" song became an overnight sensation.
I've seen people who love him and people who think he doesn't understand economics. I take rather a nuanced position on this.
I raise this because in that episode (featuring guest John Bush, friend and entrepreneur) I admitted I'd been wrong about something important.
I used to think "mindset" didn't matter all that much, that it was something you could switch on and off (just have a better attitude!), and that the subject
itself was an excuse for people to sell you $497 mindset courses.
This just isn't true.
The wrong mindset will sabotage you. If you inherited toxic ideas about wealth from your family, those ideas will be a significant obstacle unless
you very deliberately uproot them.
If that inner critic tells you nothing you do will amount to anything, that nobody would care what you have to say or what you have to offer, you're going to be stuck at the starting block.
Those
thoughts are your mortal enemy.
We're all insecure. We all have self-doubt. The difference between you and super-successful people isn't that you have those thoughts and they don't. It's that those people have resolved to wage war on those thoughts, and have determined that they themselves, rather than sabotaging thoughts, will control their lives.
A key mindset change we need to make, especially in this day and age, is to think of ourselves as more than just consumers.
The things you do as an entrepreneur, no boss is ordering you to do. It's a whole different way of thinking and acting. I'm
constantly reading and learning and trying new things, because there's no guy sending me an automatic check every week.
If I'd stuck to doing what an employer told me to do, I'd have a comfortable enough life, but not what I have now, which I control and nobody can take away from me.
With that in mind, dive in to one of
these kinds of businesses and tell your hostile brain to shut up:
