You may have seen a
meme circulating about women asking their men how often they think about the Roman Empire, and being shocked to learn that they think about it frequently, in some cases every day.
I don't think about the Roman Empire at all, if I'm being honest.
Here's what I do think about:
I'm sending five daughters into a hostile world.
And I'm sending them into a world in which the rules for success aren't what they were in 1977.
It is my responsibility -- not that of any school, or YouTube influencer, or anyone else -- to prepare them for that world, to give them the knowledge their peers won't have.
I want them to be secure, happy, and fulfilled, not anxious, desperate, and
depressed.
And a major ingredient is: financial security.
Money can't buy happiness, they say, but conflict arising from a lack of money is the number-one reason couples split up.
And if you have financial security, you can be mentally present enough to enjoy the good things of life.
That's what I want for my kids.
You do,
too.
So let's not pretend it's 1977. Let's give them the knowledge they need, that they won't learn anywhere else, that will give them a major advantage as they enter an inhospitable world.
