Next week my business mastermind has its second in-person meeting, this one in Chicago.

I had lined up The Signature Room on 95th, a beautiful venue, for our Saturday dinner. The menus were going to say, "The Signature Room Welcomes the Tom Woods Mastermind."

Today I received a strange, automated email: your reservation cancellation.

Huh? I never canceled it.

But there it was: my deposit returned and the reservation canceled.

I was about to call someone to find out what was up, when I discovered the sad truth: the restaurant has closed, permanently. It never recovered from the Covid lockdowns.

Here's an excerpt of what it says on their website:

"After over three decades of creating cherished memories, it is with profound sadness that we announce the permanent closure of the iconic Signature Room at the 95th, effective Thursday, September 28, 2023.

"For over 30 years, we have had the privilege and honor of serving Chicagoans and visitors from all over the world. Together, we’ve marked countless life moments – from heartwarming engagements to milestone anniversaries.

"Unfortunately, after the closure of our city and restaurant due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been faced with severe economic hardship and the challenges have been greater than we anticipated.

"These factors, beyond our control, have left us with no choice but to close our doors."

Just awful. Such a sad thing to see.
