Three-quarters of you
will be angry.
You will try to change my mind.
It cannot be done.
Now look: I occasionally enjoy an old
movie. We watched some old gangster movies in preparation for the murder mystery dinner party we held last month. I have a few I enjoy now and again.
But come on. The acting is completely wooden and unconvincing. Not for a second do I believe any of these people are really their characters. They sound like they're repeating memorized lines, not having natural
dialogue.
And the plots. The plots! No twists, no turns. Maybe 1963's Charade. I've watched courtroom dramas in which the defendant surely looks guilty. You think: okay, they're obviously not going to show me this whole movie in which the defendant appears to be guilty, and then end the movie with the guy being convicted and that's that. What's the twist? I can't
wait!
No twist. Guilty. End of movie.
We can admit it: they're terrible.
But plenty of things from the
old days were indisputably good, but are simply overlooked nowadays. I've been mentioning some of the old books on success and wealth. Those were full of valuable insights that are now collecting dust because everyone's chasing the latest fad.
Don't do that.
Read the classics.
