Yesterday I sent out my
case against old movies.
As I expected, old-movie aficionados wrote to me.
As I did not expect, at least one of them has me rethinking my opinion. He sent me a list of some greats, which I've promised him I will watch, and of course I
realized upon reading it that I had neglected Hitchcock. See, ol' Woods can be reasonable now and then!
And by what is entirely a coincidence, I'll be seeing the silent film version of The Phantom of the Opera, starring Lon Chaney, at the Providence Performing Arts Center (as in Providence, Rhode Island) tonight. (If you're in the area, check it out -- it starts at
7pm and costs nothing, and you may run into Woods.)
So now that I'm rethinking my prejudice against old movies, it's even easier for me to urge you to read the old classic Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, which the great Russell Brunson is giving away (along with two other titles) in an irresistible free-plus-shipping deal.
Our arrogant culture so often looks to the past with contempt and a sense of superiority. Those people from earlier times were dumb and backward. All we need is what the enlightened voices of today have to say!
So that means we're neglecting people and books whose
ideas have had a massive impact on previous generations, and which were once treasured for very good reason.
(My friend Marlon Sanders, who's very old school and who swears by Hill's book, has been successful in part because he remembers ideas and strategies people used to use before the Internet, and then chucked in the garbage when the new technology came along.
Those ideas and strategies still work, but nobody except Marlon is using them anymore, so that gives him a massive advantage.)
Here are the ideas that you and I -- and our kids -- should know, because they're important and because everyone else is neglecting them to their own peril:
