You may remember the name Roger Bannister as the
man who first ran a 4-minute mile.
Once he accomplished that feat, all of a sudden tons of people were doing it.
But those people had been perfectly capable of doing so the day before Roger Bannister did it.
So why didn't they? Because their brains told them they couldn't. They
were convinced that it was something that couldn't be done, so they adjusted their behavior accordingly.
The barrier, we now know, wasn't physical at all but mental.
Life has a way of wearing people down, such that as people get older they build up more and more such mental barriers for themselves. For instance, the percentage of older Americans who set goals
is much lower than the percentage of younger Americans who do. Shockingly lower.
People become hardened and jaded over time.
Sometimes it's because they have set goals in the past, failed to reach them, and they don't want to feel defeated again.
But they've almost certainly set the goals in
all the wrong ways and set themselves up for failure from the beginning (which is why I've launched my program for setting and achieving goals).
Some of it has to do with the things we tell ourselves every day. I would be shocked if I didn't have a significant number of people reading this right now who have decided not to join me in the (non-fluff, and actually effective) goal-setting program I'm doing with the rest of my
readers because they know it just can't work for them because when they try ambitious things they never succeed.
These mental obstacles are killing you.
If you've got your brain telling you all day long that you're no good and you won't accomplish anything, it's no surprise that you internalize that and get unsatisfying results.
If you're going to join hundreds if not thousands of fellow readers and me in this serious yet exhilarating undertaking, we're going to need to clear all that crap out of your head. First thing.
As you'll see at the link, I'm throwing in as bonuses two things that are going to help shut that inner critic of yours up once and for all.
Shut. That. Thing. Up. Already.
And remember, just finish the program by the end of January (not exactly a Herculean feat) and you can have your money back.
Do something different, get different results.
