Today the wife and I head back home to central Florida after the Pack Up + Go people arranged this very enjoyable surprise trip to Austin, Texas, where I'm sitting in the airport as I write this to you.

We had a great week, riding on Scott Horton's boat, having lunch with Michael Malice, seeing the sights, and visiting Buc-ee's just out of town (a certain travel companion has to visit one whenever it's nearby).

Austin and its barbecue is like Philadelphia and its cheesesteaks: everyone has a favorite, and some people will act like you haven't really had barbecue or cheesesteaks if you haven't gone to their preferred place. We went to and enjoyed Black's (I've already been told we should have gone to Terry Black's), Cooper's, and County Line (we arrived via boat, thanks to Scott).

One area where I've become a snob (I hate being one, but in this case I can't help it) involves water. No matter where I am, tap water tastes like swill.

Austin restaurants, even the upscale ones, generally don't sell bottled still water (and sparkling water is an atrocity, so I don't drink that). Instead, they bring you an unlabeled bottle of room-temperature water and fill your glass with it. If someone wanted to organize a revolt against this, I would participate.
