This weekend,
with my wife out of town, I thought: I'll take my 10-year-old to the cat cafe in Orlando.
Naturally, I typed "Orlando cat cafe" into a search engine.
And guess what: out popped a place literally called The Orlando Cat Cafe.
This was the place I wanted, surely!
Nope.
The place I wanted, it turns out, was The Kitty Beautiful, in Orlando. My lovely wife, who's been there, would have known that.
From my house in Saint Cloud I can get to anywhere in Orlando in 30 to 60 minutes. So I figured that no matter where in the city the Orlando Cat Cafe was, we'd be in good shape if we left just over an hour ahead of time. (Our reservation
was for the last hour the cafe was open, because that's all that was left.)
Well, as I discovered to my great surprise as we got in the car, the "Orlando" cat cafe is actually in a place called Clermont, which is another 22 miles from Orlando.
In fact, because you get to it the same way you'd get to Tampa from my house, you run into a stretch on I-4 that no matter time of day
or what day of the week it is, is clogged with traffic. Every single time, without exception.
So not only are we not heading to Orlando, but we're actually heading into a traffic nightmare.
I am convinced they took the name "Orlando Cat Cafe" for the SEO benefits. Worked on me, that's for sure.
I'll say this,
though: cat people are intensely devoted to their pets, and to cats in general.
When someone is known as a cat person and gift-giving time comes along, a simple item with something funny on it involving cats will be a lot of friends' go-to gift.
Cats are an obvious one, though. Other animals, including more obscure pets like chinchillas (we used to have two), have their avid
fans. Moreover, for every interest and occupation under the sun it is easier than you can imagine (because the source material is all around you if you know where to look, and the great Adam Schneider will teach you where to look) to create simple coffee mugs that appeal to those particular people.
It's a simple business that Adam turned into a small fortune after following a program he found out about through me.
The replay of his demonstration to us comes down tonight. The first 30 minutes give you the overview (though the Q&A session is very helpful, too).
If you or your ambitious teenager could pull in a little extra dough by doing something fun and taking advantage of modern technology (and most people have zero idea what is possible these days), that would be nice, I think.
Here's how it works (comes down at midnight):
