We had our problems in the 1980s, but I can tell you from experience that it was a great time to grow up.

If you're around my age, you know what I'm talking about. Yes, compared to earlier decades the '80s were in some respects a train wreck. But compared to 2024 those days seem wholesome, not to mention full of joy and hope.

And now here we are in 2024, and we find ourselves asking questions that never would have occurred to us back then.

For example, I wonder if someday I'll have to leave the United States -- and even though you may know I travel a lot, I am at heart a homebody. I like to sleep in my own bed, eat food that's familiar to me, and work in my own office.

But now I feel like it would be irresponsible not at least to think about what my Plan B might be.

I'll bet it never occurred to a lot of us: I'd better have a work Plan B, in case my current job ever makes intolerable, politically motivated demands of me, or in case I absolutely have to relocate, or for whatever reason.

Ron Paul used to say: the entitlement programs are going to go bust, so we should be mature enough to start planning for that inevitability now, rather than face a crisis and have to figure out what to do on the spot.

We knew nobody in Washington was indeed mature enough to do that.

But surely you and I are. We don't want to figure out our Plan B the day the pink slip comes, or the day we can't take the wokery anymore, or the day we have to take some other injection. We want to start thinking about it before we need it.
