I don't know about you, but I can spot AI-style
writing a mile away.
So I was flabbergasted to receive an email from someone the other day saying that one of the issues of my libertarian newsletter sounded like it had been written by AI.
For one thing: trust me, no AI is going to give you my opinions.
Second: not a single AI platform I have come across can be
cajoled into sounding like me, no matter what prompts you use. My prose is immediately obvious to everyone -- especially in what I write to that email list.
The thought of using AI to write either of my email newsletters would never occur to me in a million years.
But it does have occasional time-saving uses.
For instance:
I had a business idea for a friend. I wasn't sure he'd follow through with it if I just suggested it to him, but if I got the whole thing set up for him and then handed him the keys, I felt sure he would do it.
So I used an AI tool to help pitch the idea to him. After I explained to it exactly what I was proposing, out popped a beautiful, formal business
proposal that would have taken me two hours to draft. It was legitimately push-button simple.
So no, I'm not going to let AI take over my voice. That's crazy. But save me two hours that I might better spend with my kids? Of course!
Well, in the same way that my business proposal took me two minutes instead of two hours, there is almost no aspect of a digital business whose
launch cannot be made vastly easier and faster using the tools we now have.
You won't be able to run an entire business forever in this way, nor would you want to, but if it saves you time, proves you can do this, and gets you started, it will have served its purpose.
In the old days, b.s. artists used to promote programs like "click your mouse three times and earn a million
clams."
Well, I don't know about the million clams, but whether people realize it or not we have reached the point where a few clicks can indeed work genuine miracles.
And that means: our excuses for not at least giving this online stuff a try don't really work anymore.
This is the kind of thing you won't believe
unless you see it. Almost nobody realizes what is possible now. You will be shocked.
