Last weekend was my unconference, the optional
in-person event I run every year primarily for my School of Life, but technically anyone can attend (though non-members have to pay, while members get in for free).
This is all about practical things we can do, as opposed to the abstract theorizing our movement enjoys indulging in. (Nothing wrong with that in principle, of course.)
I therefore decided: the person who introduces me at this conference should be someone who knows
me in a completely different capacity, and not the usual academic one.
So the person who introduced me was my personal trainer, Andrew Maragh, owner of Soldier City Fitness. I've written to you about him a few times.
He's originally from Jamaica (he doesn't have the accent) and grew up in Miami.
He said: looking at us side by side, you'd think Tom and I share nothing
in common. Then he listed some things we do have in common, and added: "And we believe in the same conspiracy theories!"
Then after I spoke, the Libertarian Institute's Keith Knight came up. Again, no theory, no pointless whining about how bad things are, no speculating on how we'd homestead in outer space.
Instead, he opened himself up radically and spoke on how he quit
drugs, overcame loneliness, and lost one hundred pounds.
I think that was a little more important than another speech about how bad Bernie Sanders is, after which everyone cheers and then goes home and does nothing.
In our next session (now that we're back online after our in-person conference) will feature a member who's going to share how she went from three-figure months
in her business to five-figure months.
And I promise the answers aren't "I started drinking a green smoothie" or "I started meditating," or anything like that. These will be very specific action items, meant to be implemented by those who attend.
I think it's obvious enough now that we normal people need to band together and share our knowledge and talents, because we inhabit
a disturbed world.
So I'll see you inside:
