Ask me what my favorite movie or song is, and I'll
tell you I have no idea. Out of so many, I couldn't possibly choose a single one.
I discovered in Nashville this month that Elite Mastermind member Alan Claypool is a movie buff, and in sharp contrast to me has compiled a list of his top 50 movies.
(He got busy over the past 15 years, he tells me, so the movies on the list go up only to 2010.)
Now this is where things
got contentious over dinner:
Alan ranks The Princess Bride as his number-two film, just behind The Shawshank Redemption.
Let's be honest here: The Princess Bride is unwatchable. Too annoying for words. My kids insist that this is my worst take ever, as do most people in general. But I'm sticking to it.
The annoying
character who keeps saying "inconceivable!" seems like the creation of a corporate board that sat down and said, "That character should have some kind of catchphrase."
I was happy to see Awakenings (one of the best movies you've never heard of) on Alan's list at #35, so that softened our contention over The Princess Bride!
At any rate, there are things about Alan that are
much better than his choice of the number-two movie of all time.
Alan struggled with his business for quite some time. Then he heard a presentation through my School of Life and realized that every characteristic of a bad business that the speaker gave, his own business had.
I have a bad business, he realized.
So in light of what he learned, Alan completely retooled and relaunched.
He's now had an eight-figure
offer to buy his business -- an offer he turned down.
Now that's a turnaround.
We do a lot more than just business inside the School of Life, but even if that's all we did, I'd say from this example we're doing a darn good job.
What would it be like to be our next Alan?
Let us do the same for you -- and keep eleven free things forever even if you decide to say
no:
