It was 2021, and Genesis was wrapping up its
farewell tour -- "we'll have to go get proper jobs now," Phil Collins said.
I had tickets to see them at the iconic Madison Square Garden.
And I'll bet you can guess what happened: the venue decided to tack on a proof-of-vaccination requirement.
So I said forget it, and sold the tickets. I was disappointed -- this
was the final time to see them, and because of a policy that the policymakers themselves admitted was more to force me to do their will as opposed to actually "keeping people healthy," I couldn't go.
But then: I found out that in Columbus, Ohio, in December of that year and one of the last North American dates, there was no such requirement.
I said to my wife, "Want to go to
Columbus?"
So at the last minute we hopped on a plane and ended up having a great old time.
Well, it's not quite the same thing, but this Friday night in Orlando my eldest daughter and I will be seeing Steve Hackett, the original Genesis guitar player, who plays the old material as well as his own music.
Before Phil Collins the Genesis singer had been Peter Gabriel,
and in those days the material was very different. Their music involved weaving textures, extended transitions, and unconventional time signatures. Hackett built his reputation on careful tone crafting and phrasing, qualities that take attention and time to refine.
(Take the time to listen to "Firth of Fifth." You're welcome.)
Now I don't want an AI version of Steve Hackett, and in fact I want him spending that time
perfecting his music. Something like that should be carefully crafted, savored even, and not rushed.
But other aspects of life we would of course love to see accelerated and made easier, and how can we not marvel that in 2026 you can build an entire business in the time it took Hackett to perfect a single guitar tone.
You’ve seen me talk about this recently, but the replay
we’ve posted is the clearest demonstration yet. In under 30 minutes, we walk through:
--A complete business concept
--A business name
--A lead magnet
--Landing page text
--Thank-you page text
--A welcome email sequence
--And even a lead-generation plan
Right on your screen, no step left out, and ready to launch.
(The replay is longer than 30 minutes because we teach other things, too.)
There was a time when building a business online was a heroic, Hackett-like undertaking that required months of technical misery. Today it’s something you can do before you’ve finished your morning
coffee.
If you're curious, and indeed who wouldn't be, the replay will be up for just a few days (if it's up forever, people procrastinate and never watch).
Be amazed:
