This is one of my proudest moments,
truly.
It was 2015, and Rand Paul was up for re-election to the U.S. Senate.
Rand's father, the great Ron Paul, was set to deliver a speech at a conference on secession.
Now we all know: secession is one of those topics you're not allowed to discuss. The possibility that there's another way to organize society apart from having one city dictate a single pattern of life to 320 million people is not to be entertained, citizen!
So the Washington Post showed up, for the obvious purpose of embarrassing Rand. Why, his father is speaking on a topic that we gatekeepers have not approved!
This really ticked me off.
So I got up to the podium, and without telling people there was a Washington Post reporter in the room, I delivered my speech to that one person.
Every aspect of my message was about the hypocrisy of our pretend-outrage culture, which would never ruin someone's career for being too pro-war, but would smear out of existence people who simply wondered if the existing political unit might be too large.
What the hell is wrong with you people, I demanded.
It's one of talks I'm most pleased with in my career. You can find it on YouTube: "Secession: The Reasonable Option Everyone Resists."
And guess what: when the Post article on the event came out, the one person who was not quoted at all was...your host here.
What could he have quoted against me? I had formulated the entire talk to make his life impossible.
Tonight at midnight Eastern I'm withdrawing my public speaking secrets, where I cover:
- what you should never tell an audience
- conquering your fears
- why it’s a mistake to try to suppress your anxiety
- why you shouldn’t necessarily “start with a joke”
- the best way to start your talk, especially if you’re a beginner
- how to organize your talk
- my “greatest hits” model of speechwriting
- four ways to improve your confidence level
- should you regulate your hand gestures?
- should you use PowerPoint?
- how to improve as a speaker
I'm giving them away as a bonus with a software (an equivalent of which cost me hundreds of smackers years ago) that will get you where you want to be in your online side hustle a lot faster, and with a lot fewer $0 days.
It's all this way:
