In a recent episode of the Tom Woods Show with historian Brion McClanahan, we took on the arguments of Beltway libertarians that while secession may be justifiable in this or that case, we can't support it willy-nilly.
After all, in some cases there may not be sufficient grievances!
To which Brion and I replied:
Who gets to decide, then, if a particular act of secession is justified? The central government?
Doesn't that obviously stack the deck against secession?
Well, duh.
The beauty of secession involves not having to ask anyone's permission.
